Title: Talucah Beach Distance: 40 miles, 1,638 feet of elevation gain Start Location: Huskey Park, 61 Florette Park Rd, Somerville, AL 35670 Date and Start Time: Saturday, March 4th, 11AM Ride Leader: Fred McMurry 256-653-8655 Description: Start Huskey Park, 61 Florette Park Rd, Somerville, AL 35670 and ride to Talucah Beach. There is a rest room at Huskey Park. We will have a quick rest stop at Tucker‘s Corner convenience store 9.8 miles. We will take a bit longer rest stop at Talucah Beach 20.7 miles. There are no facilities at Talucah Beach. Final rest stop is at Curry Chapel 27.9 miles for a quick view of the majestic Belgian Draft Horses. No major climb but abundant hills and rollers. Use caution on Highway 67 at 39.1 miles to the park turn at 39.3 miles due to fast moving traffic. Bring a cue sheet and/or navigational device and have the phone numbers of the Ride Leader and the phone number of at least one friend. Be aware that cell phone service can be spotty. Generally, riders are expected to stay together and watch out for each other. Be confident you can do the stated pace and distance. Starts at 8:30 am at Bonefish Grill‘s parking lot (4800 Whitesburg Dr. S.), 4.5 miles to Honest Coffee(SW corner of Clinton and Washington with lunch in Washington Park (sometimes to Gold Sprint Coffee or other agreed upon location for an extra couple miles each way) 4.5 miles back. Third Sunday of the month is pancake breakfast on Lincoln Street ($10 cash). Post breakfast Monte Sano option for a total of 24 miles. Rides will split at 25.6 miles. Start New Hope Civitan Park. Hopefully, the rest room will be open. We will take the Paint Rock Road loop from New Hope around to Cherrytree Road by Popular Ridge Road. We will take a rest stop at Circle K on Highway 431 at 21 miles. After the rest stop we will then head back to New Hope by Old Gurley Pike. There are a few hills and rollers but no major climb. Remain traffic aware on Cherrytree Road. Greenway Routes alternate weekly. Pace is 10-12 MPH. Great for beginners, those recovering from injury or simply ladies who want to meander together along at a slower pace. We call ourselves the "Zen Hens" and thats how we roll. Check back weekly for route updates!!

The recurring FT Ride kicks off this week at 5:00. Look for a later start in a few weeks when there is more daylight. Distance: 17-20 miles Pace: Fast group will average approximately 17 mph. The slow group will ride at a Smell the roses (STR) pace with no rider left behind (NRLB). Riders must wear a helmet and have back red light. For your comfort, bring a bottle of water.
