CYCLING ESSENTIALS
Boost your bicycling confidence and skill
Please enroll a few days in advance so you can sign registration and pay. You’ll want to get
your bicycle and gear ready. Our Friday evening session will NOT require your bicycle or
gear. Our Saturday session will. You will need pocket money and ID as we will be riding on
streets and having a lunch break together.
 
The Cycling Essentials course is designed to develop the student’s 1) knowledge about the craft and science
of bicycling, 2) increase the student’s confidence, utility, and pleasure,under various highway, climate,
terrain, and traffic conditions.
 
This 8 hour course (Friday evening 6- 8 pm Saturday 8 am- 2 pm) combines three sections: classroom lecture, discussion and activities, on your own bike skill drills, and on-road group practice ride. Recommended for adults and children above 14 and for all experience levels.
Topics include how to:
Select a bicycle and discuss minor bike fit adjustments
Discuss routine maintenance
Choose clothing and equipment
Handle your bicycle in a variety of situations
Select your position on roadways and shared paths.
Prevent and avoid typical mistakes; motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians
Recognize and avoid road hazards; surface defects, railroad tracks, dogs
Maximize feeling good; shifting, nutrition, and etiquette
Cost is $65 per student; discounts may apply.
